The lunar landscape of Thornham Lane must make it one of the longest, dodgiest road leading to any UK race registration.   Take care if driving there.

In contrast to the usual up-then-down of a fell race, the elevation profile of this trail race was the opposite.  The first half was generally down hill, with undulations, then the second half was generally uphill to the top path behind Tandle Hill, then a gradual downhill section at the end.

The finish line is higher than the start line.  News of the generous prize list must have spread because in 2009 over 160 runners took part – not bad for an evening race.

I ran in light road shoes and they were fine.

The route was well marshalled and the event well organised.  I thoroughly enjoyed it.

The unusual elevation profile makes this a race worth recceing beforehand.
