Shakespeare Marathon
(results full marathon and half marathon and pictures)
Summary, Stratford-upon-Avon is a beautiful setting for this rural marathon and half marathon. The race was well marshalled with regular drinks stations every 2 miles (water only, no sports drinks). Start time is off putting - 1pm - means you have a tough choice between lunch (=stitch) or no lunch (=run out of fuel). Course is undulating and double lapper (that 150' hill at 8 miles greets you again at 18 miles!). 1pm start also means it can be hot - in 2005 it was about 16-17 deg C in direct sun for the first 18 miles. Quite a few marathoners got dehydrated and overheated and switched to the half marathon en route.
Overall a lovely location, well run but don't expect a personal best (unless like me its your first marathon!).
