Being from Birmingham I had never heard of the phrase "once every Preston Guild". Well it seems that once every 20 years, new Prestonites hatch and have a series of celebrations.  This happened in 2012 and the celebrations included a Guild series of race, the last of which was the Preston 10 Mile road race.  The 600 race places filled before race day, leading to disappointment for those that planned to enter on the day.

Parking was plentiful but inconveniently located at the Police compound about 10 minutes walk away.  Number collection was fast and efficient, there were loads of toilets and plentiful changing rooms.  Chip timing too.

The course was essentially flat, PB course with an incline at 2.5 and 7.5 miles.  There were two drink stations on the two-lap course meaning you had plenty of opportunities to take on fluids. Plenty of cheerful marshals. At the end there was a bottle of water and a rather nice, technical T-shirt.  There was hot soup, tea, coffee etc. available at reasonable prices.  Results were out the same day.

Overall a very well organised event that Presotonites have every reason to be proud of.

The course, two laps:

I think these are the pods that the Prestonites hatch from, once every 20 years, in a process called the "Guild".
Either that or Portaloos.  Toilets may also be found in the huge changing rooms

Registration below at the very end.  Collect cool technical T shirt at stall with green top.  Hot soup, tea and coffee are also available on the right
