The snow made this a beautiful race. Pictures.
Ran on snow for the last 2 years. Hot on way up then bitterly cold over the
moors. Start and end flagged but you have to find your own way to the
checkpoints on the moors where there are no paths. Hard under foot.
Tussocks and heather. Easier
than Winter Hill. Fell shoes essential and not recommended for beginners. Excellent, well run event.
I had forgotten what a hard race this is, much harder than the stats
suggest. Full fell safety gear mandatory. The unflagged parts have large
parts which are not paths, but heather, bogs and slippery peat. Its definitely
not one for beginners or road runners. The organisation by Tod
Harriers was excellent. There was a very strong wind to add to the
fun. Slight problem with parking - over 200 raced so there were about 136
cars and not enough space for them This meant parking about half a mile
away. Car sharing is recommended for next year.
