This was a proper, hard cross country course and no doubt about it.  In my opinion possibly one of the best cross country courses on the planet!

As you can see from the above, the race starts with a charge up hill.   Then its down and 7 more miles of undulating, muddy, energy sapping course.   The men's course was just two, big laps meaning it remained interesting throughout.  At one point the mud was highly liquified and it was a little dangerous there as you met the path, with quite a few runners tripping and losing shoes.   The finish was lovely - a great downhill stretch, bending to the left then a long flatish section for the final sprint.   Organisation was excellent. Chip timing. Results were out the same evening.

Only minor suggestions for improvement (not intended to detract from a great event):  make abovementioned dangerous part safer, add straw or wood chippings on path crossings, put sufficient toilet paper in loos, print off more than just the top 1/3rd of men in paper results on the day and add a burger van (not just hot dogs).

2012 Update - excellent event with a finish that must be one of the best around - a long downhill strech then over to the left for the sprint ot the finish line.   Over 1,600 men this year created a bottle-neck at the top of the first climb, causing the bottom half of the field to grind to a halt.
