Crikey this was a hard race. Don't even think about it if you are new to fell running or not used to long races.   In bad weather good navigational skills are essential. The course has something of everything.  Steep grassy descents, bog sections, peat that tries to pull your shoes off, a scramble/near climb up Laddow rocks (see below) and lots and lots of uphill.  Be prepared for leg cramps and all sorts of pain.  About 7 did not finish, including a poor lass who had a nasty fall on the rocky and trippy descent into Crowden (the same descent as at the end of the Crowden Horseshoe fellrace).

I wore trail shoes but regretted it on the steep, grassy descents.  Fell shoes recommended.

Laddow Rocks, you clamber up here

Holmfirth Harriers did a great job organising the race.  It was pretty hot and they ferried water to some difficult places (e.g. top of Laddow Rocks) to help us.  The 5 entry fee included a T-shirt, big sandwich, cake and unlimited refills of tea and coffee.  They even had a bar.  There was a generous prize list (although, controversially, cases of stella for the winning men's team but not for the winning ladies team).  Typical vet prizes were 15 up and running vouchers.

All in all a top, 'proper' fell race organised by generous folk who know what they are doing.
