August 2011

The relentless climb up the runnable cycle paths

The start is opposite the Royal Oak pub on Newchurch road (satnav OL13 ODH) , not far from the base for the 2011 World Gravy Wrestling Championships.

The first running of the Hailstorm Hill fell race took place on a warm summer evening in 2011.  The concept was a free race with no prizes.  The surfaces were quite good cycle paths, although you wouldn't want to trip on them as there were jutty up rocks and you would do some damage if you fell on them.  Due to its runnability I found this exhausting.  The climb and the descent were both relentless.

The course was well marked, well marshalled, plenty of loos and the results were out the same evening.  Nice one Rossendale Harriers!  I will be doing it again.
