Autumn Leaves Fell Race "A Piece of cake"

Diggle - 2 miles from nowhere

  Advertised Statistics Measured Statistics
Distance 10 miles 8.8 miles
Total Climbs 1700' 1400'

In 2006 the route was shortened due to a landslide.

This scenic course is fast, technically easy and feels more like a trail than fell race.  Most of the paths and gradients are runnable, even for a mid-packer.  Going is good under foot the entire route except for two parts - a steep decent down a rough path with loose rocks and a clumpy grass ascent by the golf course.  Note there is a strict bum bag check before you are allowed to the start line to ensure you are carrying all the necessary safety gear (compass, full body cover etc.).

Plenty of toilets at registration and, the star attraction of this event, a cake competition plus all the free cake you can eat!  Also free tea and coffee, just make a donation.  Well attended prize giving for the race and light hearted cake competition.  Seeing hardened fell runners turning up with cakes they had baked was a first for me.

Well organised, marshalled and a warm atmosphere.  I'll definitely be doing this lovely course again.
